The Jan Juc Fishing Worms story
Jan Juc Fishing Worms is owned and operated by 21-year-old Bradman Meakin along with his old school buddy Ehkday Kunoo. We understand how much it means to our customers to use top quality worms to increase catch rates. When it comes to fishing, we’re all about the worms!
Jan Juc Fishing Worms grew out of our frustration at the scarcity of quality fishing worms and the cost of those that were available. We fish a lot, often as a family and, we wanted to use the best worms. And we wanted to help other fishing families do the same.
Back in 2017 almost overnight, Jan Juc Fishing Worms was born.
Our mission was simple: to breed the best quality fishing worms and supply them to you at affordable prices. Top-notch worms that don’t cost the earth. We know what makes a good fishing worm because we are keen fishermen ourselves.
Run on a shoestring budget, our business began humbly – using an abandoned worm farm, with mum’s horses’ manure and kitchen scraps for worm food. Stage two included developing this website and extending our reach to include customers around Australia. With some generous help from some of dad’s friends and contacts, we’ve been able to minimise overheads. This means we can get your worms to you at very, very reasonable costs.
Within 12 months of opening and with demand for worms exceeding the ability to supply, Bradman’s school buddy Ehkday Kunoo was bought in to help out as a partner in the thriving business. The worm breeding programme was also moved into a temperature controlled shed to maximise production.
The business was started in Jan Juc, a Victorian seaside town famous for its surf beaches, including iconic Bells Beach. Many of the world’s famous surf brands including Rip-Curl and Quiksilver were born here. With high demand the facility was moved to larger premises in Werribee to cater for the extra demand. This also allowed easy access to these popular worms to people living in the Western suburbs of Melbourne. This location provides the perfect base to operate our business and bring these amazing worms to fishing folk around Australia.
Happy fishing! May you bring home a big one today. And another big one tomorrow.
